1927. (July)

4.

The Officers acting as Aide-de-Camp and

Private Secretary during the periods of

leave granted to Captain Neville and Mr.

St. Lawrence drew full pay and a

supplementary vote was taken to meet the

cost.

Captain Steele, Aide-de-Camp, on resignation

was granted two months and eight days full

pay leave. Half pay was paid to Captain

Thyte, Aide-de-Camp, for this period, and

a supplementary vote was taken to meet the

cost.

With reference to paragraph 3 of your despatch

the bonus to the Private Secretary for cyphering work should

I think be abolished if the pay of the post is raised to

$500 per annum. As regards the question of the salary for

the Aide-de-Cap, I cannot myself see any sufficient reason

for making this less than the salary for the Private

Secretary. The two salaries have been the same here for

many years. Both officers enjoy free board and lodging at

Government House,

5.

This is a matter on which I feel that Sir

C. Clementi would like to be consulted and I am taking the

liberty of sending him a copy of this despatch.

6.

If any alteration of the present arrangements

is sanctioned I should be glad to be informed by telegram,

so that provision can be made in the 1929 Estimates.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient humble servant,

W.D. Southarky

Officer Administering the Government.
